Homebound Tutors - How To Choose An Experienced And Qualified One
Homebound Tutors - How To Choose An Experienced And Qualified OneHomebound tutors can help a child learn how to read, write, and do math. A homebound tutor can teach a child how to make his/her own study plan, what materials he/she will need for homework and how to organize their time effectively. The entire process is a lot easier when the tutor you choose is knowledgeable and experienced. But you should also be sure that the tutor you select has the qualifications and experiences necessary to meet your child's needs.Reading skills are important. By reading one short story at a time, a child can gradually develop a strong vocabulary. Reading helps children learn to read fast. Because most of the time is spent studying in school, having a good tutor is a must. A homebound tutor who is experienced can help your child improve on the speed at which he/she learns to read. You'll need to schedule an appointment to see the tutor before making a decision. Be sure that the tutor is experience d in helping children. Find out if he/she works with children who are low on motivation. Low motivation children are often put on programs that are not enjoyable for them. If this is the case, it is best to find a tutor who has the best motivational programs to help the child learn. Before making an appointment with the homebound tutor, plan to bring the child with you. The tutor will need to observe the child closely. He/she will then have the opportunity to check your child's speed of learning and how well he/she is doing at doing school work. In many cases, an older child might want to sit back and watch while a younger child works through something or is doing math problems.Bring a list of questions for the tutor to discuss with you, such as what kind of curriculum your child should be taught, how long does the child have to devote to homework, and what type of materials are needed. Ask the tutor to make sure that he/she knows how to integrate your child's situation into the less ons. Some tutors are willing to talk with parents and explain what they do for children.Time is important in the process of teaching a child how to read and write. For instance, a child who gets up earlier and spends more time at the library reading may require more attention at home. A tutor who works around the clock can be very helpful to your child.Ask for references of any homebound tutors you might be considering. Get referrals from friends and relatives. Remember that the last thing you want is to hire a homebound tutor that doesn't know what they're doing. Research and ask questions to make sure that the homebound tutor is experienced, qualified and knows what they're doing.

New Oxford Vice-Chancellor proposes US-style scholarship system
New Oxford Vice-Chancellor proposes US-style scholarship system In his first interview as the soon-to-be Oxford University Vice-Chancellor, Andrew Hamilton has outlined his desire for a US-style scholarship system to encourage gifted, financially strapped students to apply to the top universities. This is a bold move for someone who has yet to be installed in his post and is the latest spearhead in an on-going campaign to break the elitist perception of Oxford. Hamilton intends to campaign for a university funding system based on the US model, where majority or full scholarships are readily available to the poorest students. He described the current UK system as 'needs-blind', with even the most generous bursaries failing to meet student requirements. On a wider scale, Hamilton also remarked that any move to raise the current tuition fee cap (3,225) would have to be matched by a major expansion of financial support for students. However, Hamilton, formerly Provost of Yale, is not without his critics. The trend amongst Vice-Chancellors at the moment is to raise tuition fees at the next review, many of whom feel their institutions are not otherwise sustainable, rather than maintain the cap and expand support. When it comes to the US question, there is also a fear that introducing American-style scholarships will result in American-style university fees, which can be up to 31,000 a year. It is early days - and even Hamilton has said he can't do anything until he has settled into the post. Still, it will be interesting to see if his appointment can affect the way all universities approach fee structures in the UK.
